Dear dancers,

You can register for the EuroGames Rotterdam 2011 same-sex dancing event on reduced rates (€ 100 for ESSDA members instead of € 120) until May 31st. After this date the price will go up for late registration. More than 230 dancers have already entered the competition in different levels and styles.

European Same-Sex Dance Association

Dear members of ESSDA

This is to inform you that the 2011 ESSDA Annual General Meeting will take place on 22.07.2011.

This year, four places will be vacant in the board.

This is a formal invitation and call to all members wishing to run as candidates for a position in the Board.

The following members of the current board are up for election, having completed 2 years in the board:

Hadass Armon,
Davy Brocatus
myself Angelo Berbotto

of the above Hadass and Davy are standing for re-elections.

I am stepping down and there is also another boardposition available that has been unfilled since Mette Bugge's resignation back in 2010.

The Bylaws allow for an increase in the number of boardmembers from 7 to 9 and this is highly likely to be adopted if there are a sufficient number of candidates!

Any members proposing to run as candidates should send in a 150-word-email with their motivation, and if possible, a face picture by 1 July 2011.

At the present time, this is the draft agenda for the AGM.
Should members wish to add an item for discussion, please raise this no later than 1st July 2011.

EuroGames 2012 Budapest - The EGLSF Board informs:

Dear Members,

I am writing to let you know the outcome of the Board’s decision regarding the license for EuroGames 2012 Budapest.

As you will know, the Board established a Control Committee for the period from 7 March to 21 May. During this period, the Committee was to gather information about the viability of the EuroGames based on actual progress between March and May and also on an assessment of subsequent plans for delivery of EuroGames from end of May 2011.

EuroGames 2012 Budapest Members of the committee scrutinised information produced by FRIGO and provided advice about the nature and level of information to be provided to EGLSF Board. Following its meeting in Budapest this weekend, the EGLSF Board is satisfied that the information gathered during this period by members of the committee and presented to the Board shows enough progress and realistic planning to give FRIGO a chance to deliver a successful EuroGames in Budapest 2012.

The Board has agreed with FRIGO that, to ensure the greatest chance of success in delivering a Budapest EuroGames 2012, an Advisory Group be formed. This Advisory Group is to be made up of invited EGLSF members and representatives of international LGBT sports organisations who can provide advice and guidance on the delivery of successful tournaments in particular sports. This Advisory Group will be chaired by Klaus Heusslein (EGLSF member of the Control Committee assigned by the AGA) and we would like to thank him both for his time and commitment to the process so far and to his future role in this group.

The EGLSF Board acknowledges that the current political situation in Hungary provides a unique challenge for FRIGO in achieving financial support from the City of Budapest and the National Government. EGLSF has therefore secured some initial funding to support the delivery of EuroGames 2012. In addition, EuroGames 2011, Rotterdam, Abseitz, Stuttgart and Pan Idraet, Copenhagen have shown significant gestures of solidarity. We would encourage other EGLSF members to initiate similar projects within their own clubs or support EuroGames 2012 in the following ways:

Encourage all teams intending to participate in EuroGames 2012 to register early (registration will open during summer 2012)
Encourage any teams who will not be competing in EuroGames 2012 to register for the supporters’ package and come and show their support and solidarity.
Help promote EuroGames 2012 amongst non-sporting friends

World News : Caroline Privou and Petra Zimmermann won the title of best team in Cologne !

"Dear Davy, dear ESSDA members,

At a gala night in Cologne's Tanzbrunnen on last Saturday evening that was broadcasted live on local television we were announced to be the Cologne Sports Team of the year 2010!

We are very proud that for the first time ever same sex dancing is receiving such an honour and attention in an official election! Since we were competing against huge teams this completely unexpected result shows how strong the support from the world-wide community must have been!

Without YOU we wouldn't have been elected: Thanks to every single vote!

Background

During the Gay Games VIII (2010) in Cologne, Germany, a joint meeting of representatives from ESSDA and NASSPDA and other interested members of the public at large expressed the sentiment that it was time for dancers worldwide to come together, through their regional associations, to unite efforts in forming a new worldwide organization for same-sex dancers.

Name

The newly created organization shall be known as the International Federation of Same-Sex Dance Associations, (IFSSDA) and information about it will be accessible online at www.ifssda.org.

ESSDA rules for public consultation by membership

Dear members of ESSDA,

I am writing to you in my capacity as Secretary of ESSDA.

All ESSDA members (fee paid for 2010-2011) have received by email the new Rules agreed by the Board. If you are a member but did not receive your copy, please email to angelo@essda.eu

Please have a look at the ESSDA Rules. From today and until 25.01.2011 you may provide comments and feedback on the Rules.

The Board will consider any comments and finalise the rules shortly after 25.01.2011.

These are the rules that will be operating at the next EuroGames in Rotterdam and same-sex dance competitions across Europe.

If you are not an ESSDA member yet, but would like to receive the email with the new rules, please fill in the registration form you can find in the section downloads and email the application to ursula@essda.eu

A new edition of the Equality dance sport DVD has been produced. It includes the highlights of the dance competition from Gay Games 2010 (finals A class, men and women, Ballroom and Latin, show dance and formation, as well as interviews with our stars). With your donation for this DVD, you are sponsoring the ESSDA Outreach Project for encouraging new dance couples to join same-sex dance sport in Europe.
