for the Board Elections in Barcelona - 15.06.2008

The following text was sent to all ESSDA members on 14.06.2008. If you think you are an ESSDA member but you did not receive this email from ESSDA's secretary Jacky Appleton, please contact Jacky to check your membership and your email address.

Dear ESSDA members,

There will be an AGM in Barcelona which will include elections of Board members. We are asking you to participate by nominating people who you, as members would like to stand for election.

This will be the first email that you have received directed only to members of ESSDA. Most discussion on important matters has previously been communicated though the TC dance list or on the website.

The current board will be automatically amongst those nominated for election, unless they ask to withdraw.

Nominations must be received no later than WEDNESDAY 25TH JUNE.

This will give time to gather and send some information about the candidates and also leave time to create a system for postal votes or votes by proxy for those who cannot attend the AGM.

This is the procedure:

Get permission from the person you would like to nominate and ensure they are willing to stand for election and are a member of ESSDA. Check that you have their email.
Find somebody to “second” the nomination. This is another member of ESSDA who agrees with and will support your nomination. Check that you have their email.
Fill in the attached form (to be downloaded as doc or as pdf) and send it back to me at jacky(at)essda.eu.
If you cannot open the attachment, the form will be available on the website. Otherwise, please send the full name and email for your nominated candidate, and the full name and email address of your “seconder”.

More details for the agenda, time and venue for the AGM will be sent as soon as possible.

31.01.2008 - Barcelona: no limitations of participants

Dear members of ESSDA, dear dancers, dear lovers of dance,

Here are the important news about EuroGames Barcelona and what we read there at the website in the Ballroom information:

1.) The ESSDA and the EGLSF are collaborating now in the issue of Barcelona dance competition rules.

2.) “About the different limitations of participants for men and women, this info was created as a forecast, not as limitations. We are working on equality in all EuroGames Barcelona 08 sports. The fact that different volunteers have been working on this subject and some others have been created and introduced the information on our web page in our 2 official languages and English, caused some differences in the English version were this forecast was included as limitations by mistake.”

10.01.2008 - ESSDA Info about EuroGames

Dear dancers, friends, dear ESSDA members,

We are very concerned about the information regarding Ballroom Dancing on the Barcelona EuroGames website. You will see that there are Standard and Latin sections for men, women and mixed couples. Within these, there are just two sub sections - high and low. No senior section and no mention of 10 dance awards. It looks like the advertised programme is a far away from what we established in the same sex dance scene and from what the ESSDA Rules and Guidelines committee already sent them as basic information for the registration.

To inform you:

Both ESSDA Co-Presidents Ralf Schiller and Roswitha Wetschka, the General Secretary Jacky Appleton and Thorsten Reulen as a member of the Rules and Guidelines Committee had an emergency meeting during the New Years Ball in Copenhagen. As a result of this meeting the Co-Presidents are at the moment contacting the EGLSF and the Barcelona organizers about these concerns on behalf of ESSDA, the Rules and Guidelines Committee is contacting Barcelona again.

The ESSDA Committee about Rules and Guidelines is actively working on the Rules and Guidelines and started to contact the Barcelona organizers since September, but the communication was not successful until now as you see.

The necessity of ESSDA is made even clearer now with the focus in one of our main goals:

To develop and maintain a level of quality and attractiveness of competitions to dancers and audiences and to encourage the use of guidelines for same-sex dance competitions.

We are working for you, please support us! Stay or become a member, ask others to become members. The more members we are, the stronger we are.
